Citation ledger

Church of Conceptual Art · 2026

Deposited. The ledger was published before the first deposit, empty and dated, rather than after. The deposit was made on 2026-10-27; the ledger has stood open and empty since before it.

Ledger opened: 2026-10-23 · Entries: 0

A public record of every citation this work receives. It is opened and dated before the first deposit, because an empty ledger published in advance demonstrates that the wager was made before the outcome was known, and one produced afterwards demonstrates nothing. An accruing record supports the claim; an empty one would be equally visible. That is the point of publishing it.

Entries

None yet. The work was deposited on 2026-10-27 and became citable that day. An empty ledger is the honest state of a work that has been published and not yet cited, and it stays visible here rather than being quietly withheld until it fills.

Independent witness

The opening date above is published on this site, and a date published on one's own site is set by its author. So is a commit date. Neither evidences the order of events on its own. The Internet Archive holds dated captures of these pages, taken on the day the ledger was opened and before any deposit existed. The timestamps are the Archive's and cannot be altered here.

The deposit itself is the second witness: the work now carries a persistent identifier issued by a repository outside this system, and the identifier resolves. Two witnesses in two systems, neither of them this one. No further capture of an empty ledger is needed: the captures above already establish that it stood open and empty before anything was published, which is the only ordering that matters. The next capture worth taking is at the first entry.

Cadence

Sources are checked monthly by hand until volume justifies automation, so a gap reads as schedule rather than concealment. Citations that fall outside the indexes, in catalogues, syllabi and reviews, are recorded here too: those are the ones the machines miss.

Sources polled

Schema

Each entry is one object in ledger.json, keyed on the citing DOI so the same citation found in several sources is recorded once.
